Having gone through years of refining, our therapy takes a holistic approach with a focus on three philosophical pillars:

  • Relationship Based Approach: the idea that people, rather than the program create the most last impact.
  • Principle Driven Foundation: the idea that developing a set of core principles and values in a student helps create lasting change rather than just through external compliance.
  • Experiential Therapy: the idea that learning is more effective when is hands-on as opposed to filled with only talk therapy’.

We have various types of therapeutic programs to help young people overcome their challenges, including:

  1. Individual Therapy: Our therapists take on a caseload of six students each, enabling them to provide a more personalized level of contact and involvement in the girls’ everyday lives. Each week, students receive at least 3 hours of therapy.
  2. Family Therapy: We believe in emphasizing and healing relationships, especially those within the family system. In addition to conducting onsite family seminars, students participate in weekly family therapy sessions both by phone or video conference and face to face sessions.
  3. Group Therapy: In addition to individual and family therapy sessions, our students receive an additional 12-15 hours of group therapy sessions, which are conducted by our licensed clinicians. They includes sessions with specialty groups, substance abuse/addiction groups, experiential groups, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
  4. Adventure Therapy: Our students receive well-rounded and meaningful learning opportunities through various outdoor recreation activities where they learn to apply the skills learned both in an individual and group setting.
  5. Psychiatric Services: One part of improving a student’s physical and mental well-being includes the administration of appropriate psychiatric and medication management. This is done on the basis of a student’s need and is not a compulsory aspect to the improvement of their health and welfare.

Although Solstice is located in Utah, we help teens from all across the country, including Hawaii

Often, most residential treatment centers for depression and trauma focus on changing the behavior or emotional state of a student rather than healing the underlying issue. This is akin to treating the symptoms of an illness rather than the illness itself. However, at Solstice, our holistic approach to therapy aims to treat the whole person and not just the problem behavior’. We acknowledge that our physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational selves are all bound together. And in order for each aspect of a person to be healthy, all other aspects must be in balance as well.

For example, many types of addictions including, substance abuse, self-harming, and unhealthy relationships are symptoms of deeper mental and psychological issues. We focus on getting to the core of the problem, and building a strong foundation rather than simply reducing the symptoms in order to bring about lasting change in a student.

And we don’t stop there. Lasting change can only be lasting when the student is leading their life successfully even after the completion of the program. That’s why Solstice’s unrivaled and unique Transition Support program is an integral component that provides support in preparation for, and throughout the transition back into the home environment.
