Fine Arts Academic Programming at Solstice West:
Solstice, a premier boarding school in Utah, offers an expansive Fine Arts program for teen girls and assigned female at birth ages 14-18 as part of their holistic approach to therapy. While our core curriculum is consistent with local standards, Solstice offers the following creative arts classes to help Alaska teens find new and therapeutic methods of expression:
Drawing: Students learn basic building blocks of art by learning how to accurately see and record objects using a variety of media such as colored pencils, pastels, and graphite.
Art Foundations I & II: These classes focus on the fundamentals of art, including two and three-dimensional design and drawing. Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of media to express themselves visually, using basic art concepts like color theory, studio techniques, and aesthetics. Teens are also introduced to historical art movements and famous artists.
Painting: This elective class allows students to apply what they learned from the Art Foundations classes to painting. They explore various mediums and canvases to create expressive work based on classic and contemporary art. Through self-expression, girls and assigned female at birth build confidence and assertiveness, and feel more connected to the world.
Girls and assigned female at birth with emotional struggles are empowered by the Visual Arts program at Solstice. Solstice encourages girls and assigned female at birth to learn healthier coping mechanisms and ways of self-expression at our school for troubled teens.
