Fine Arts Academic Programming at Solstice West:
Solstice, a premier boarding school in Utah, offers an expansive Fine Arts program for teen girls and assigned female at birth ages 14-18 as part of their holistic approach to therapy. In addition to a full curriculum geared towards academic learning and success, Solstice offers the following classes to help DC teens find new and therapeutic methods of expression:
Art Foundations I & II: Introductory classes emphasize the fundamentals of art and give previews of a variety of styles, like two and three-dimensional design and drawing. Basic art concepts like color theory, studio techniques, aesthetics, and opportunities to experiment with various media gives students an opportunity to skillfully express themselves visually. Teens will also be exposed to various art movements and how they impacted the history of art.
Drawing: Drawing is a basic building block of most art. Solstice’s drawing classes teach students how to accurately see and record objects using a variety of media such as colored pencils, pastels, and graphite.
Painting: This elective class allows students to apply what they learned from the Art Foundations classes to painting. They explore various mediums and canvases to create expressive work based on classic and contemporary art. Self-Expression is a necessary skill for confidence, assertiveness, and feeling connected to the world.
Solstice believes that girls and assigned female at birth with emotional struggles are empowered by visual arts. If you believe your DC teen would benefit from one of the leading schools for troubled teens please call Solstice at (866) 278-3345.
