Holistic Approach

The Solstice philosophy includes a belief in a holistic approach. This approach focuses on treating the whole person, not just the “identified problem” or “problem behavior.” The problem behaviors are most often symptoms of more significant core issues. For instance, we view addictive behaviors, whether they be self-harming, substance abuse, or based in unhealthy relationships, as being symptoms of more core issues. The primary goal of our therapy for girls is to access those core issues so genuine healing can occur.

In addition, a holistic approach accounts for the fact that, for instance, our physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and relational selves are all bound together. This “mind-body” philosophy is supported by a large and growing body of research that our mental and physical health is intertwined. A problem or deficit in one area will impact the other.

Our therapy for girls acknowledges the fact that to create lasting, effective change, a holistic approach to health is necessary. This fact underlies and drives all the components of the Solstice program.

Celebrating Long-term Success

“Solstice got me through one of the hardest times in my life. I had a support group that’s huge,
between the therapists and the mentors, the other girls–all helping each other”
Veronica, finding support for relationships and adoption issues.
