Therapeutic Boarding Schools – Solstice As An Alternative

Solstice, a residential treatment center for teen girls ages 14-18, is a great option for families in search of residential programs such as therapeutic boarding schools.

Unlike therapeutic boarding schools, our program combines a high level of therapeutic support with academic programming. Here are some other ways Solstice RTC is a great alternative to therapeutic boarding schools:

  • Therapeutic experts on staff: Many therapeutic boarding schools don’t focus enough on therapeutic programming. Solstice clinical staff are experts in helping teenage girls struggling with trauma, depression, and other emotional challenges. <a target=therapeutic boarding schools" width="300" height="200" srcset="https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-200x133.jpg 200w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-300x200.jpg 300w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-400x267.jpg 400w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-600x400.jpg 600w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-768x512.jpg 768w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-800x533.jpg 800w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https://solsticertc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/IMG_2531.jpg 1365w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" />
  • Relationship-based: Often, therapeutic boarding schools do not put a great deal of emphasis on helping young women develop and rebuild relationships with family and peers. One of the most important aspects of our programming at Solstice is to work on repairing relationships and helping girls develop healthy communication skills.
  • We’re serious about what we do: Our goal is to help your daughter build confidence and feel empowered to make the changes she needs to be successful socially, academically, and emotionally. We have the therapeutic and academic resources to help girls on their journey towards lasting success.

Residential treatment centers provide both a healing academic environment and serious therapeutic attention. Although therapeutic boarding schools create a comfortable environment for students, they don’t provide the same level of therapeutic care as a residential treatment center. Sometimes therapeutic boarding schools are just not the right place to send your teen. That’s when residential treatment centers can really help.

Why choose Solstice?

Solstice is a widely recognized residential treatment program specifically designed to help teen girls between the ages of 14 and 18. Our program has helped hundreds of teens struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges on a journey towards lasting success.

Decades of experience in successfully helping teenage girls have allowed us to develop consistently effective treatment philosophies and approaches to healing emotional and behavioral struggles in teenage girls and their families.

With the evolving needs in teenage girls, these philosophies and program components allow us to effectively address individual adolescent struggles and inspire change that heals girls and their families.

Our philosophy towards helping teen girls and their families includes five key components. These components are:

    1. Focus on people: Solstice is highly individualized. We focus on providing the best therapeutic care possible for each student. We believe that people more than programs create a lasting impact.
    2. Family focused programming: At the heart of our program, we want families to come together and reconnect. Your connection with your child is one of the strongest, most important relationships they will have. We work closely with families to make this relationship strong and trusting.
    3. Internal change: At Solstice, teen girls are encouraged to explore what matters to them. Rather than focusing on compliance and external changes, we help girls create lasting change from the inside out.
    4. Mind-body connection: Our holistic approach to therapy focuses on treating the entire individual rather than just “problem areas”. The problem behaviors are most often symptoms of more significant core issues. The primary goal of our therapy for girls is to access those core issues so genuine healing can occur.
    5. Girls-only approach: We focus specifically on females between the ages of 14 and 18. Our therapeutic and academic approaches are tailored to the specific developmental needs of this age and gender group.

Trauma-Focused Programming at Solstice

Solstice specializes in therapeutic programming designed to help girls struggling with trauma, loss, attachment, and comorbid patterns of addictive behaviors and thoughts. These challenges are highly complex and must be addressed by specialists carrying out specific approaches. Our clinicians have received specialized, intensive training in trauma-focused interventions such as:

  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Somatic Experiencing
  • Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Recent developments in research related to trauma has influenced the way we define trauma. Historically, trauma diagnoses were relegated specifically to catastrophic events that have created deep rooted emotional and behavioral impacts in individuals. We have broadened our definition of trauma, informed by recent research as to what traumatizes individuals.

Big T traumas are what we call catastrophic events such as natural disasters, car accidents, and abuse. Little t traumas are the traumatic situations that were not traditionally included in the definition of trauma. These traumas include events such as divorce, loss, bullying, and social rejection.

Our trauma focused programming addresses the underlying issues causing symptoms to appear in order to get to the core of the issue.
