Solstice Difference

Solstice Difference

Solstice RTC has grown out of decades of experience working with adolescent girls and assigned female at birth in residential treatment. Over the years, we’ve built one of the best residential treatment centers for troubled teens. We have developed a specialized, clinically intensive program based on the specific needs of our young women. The Solstice difference includes respected, evidence-based approaches  to the most common challenges our students face: dealing with trauma, loss, emotional disturbance, relationship deterioration, and impulsive and addictive behaviors.[1]

What makes Solstice unique among residential treatment centers for troubled teens?

Owner-Operated Programs for Personal Attention

Solstice is a private, owner-operated program. Helping teens and their families on their life’s journey is one of the most important, profound things we can do. As owner-operators, our founders are clinicians, and they are involved in the day to day operations, including running therapy groups with the girls, participating in activities, and family seminar groups and events.

Gender Specific Programs Can Offer Better Results experience

Success in working with teens requires specific and unique areas of emphasis, and sensitivity to how they respond to various approaches to change.  The Solstice culture and approach are specifically developed to fit the distinctive needs of teenage girls; whether it be the specifically designed equine approach and addictions programs, or the clinical specialization and collaboration of our therapists, Solstice is uniquely qualified to address the complex needs of girls and assigned female at birth in need of healing and growth.

Intensive Hiring Process to Find the Best, Most Passionate People

Two of our staff mottos are: “Celebrate Excellence,” which focuses on recognition of excellent work,  and “Be an Everyday Hero,” which emphasizes doing the “little things” that make a big difference.  Solstice RTC is committed to hiring the most qualified, professional, caring staff that is dedicated to helping the girls and assigned female at birth we serve. First, staff undergoes a thorough review and interview process.

Once hired, our staff undergoes specific, regular training to continue their own personal and professional development, which is essential to the life-changing work we do.

Solstice RTC has also achieved stringent accreditations and is part of valuable memberships that demonstrate our commitment to providing the highest quality of care for our families. This is one of the many aspects that separates us fromother residential treatment centers for troubled teens.

Family-Centered Approach to Repair Relationships

As one of the leading residential treatment centers for troubled teens, Solstice offers an intensive family focus which addresses relationships and family dynamics through family therapy sessions, family seminars, multi-family groups and experiential interventions.  This unparalleled and unwavering focus has proven to be a powerful change process for families and girls. Families will be regularly and intensively involved in their daughter’s therapeutic process.

Focus on Internal to External Change, not Compliance

Residential treatment centers for troubled teens and interventions have historically focused solely on compliance. While compliance is important, how it is generated is very critical. Compliance that springs from external controls and “fear of punishment” tends to be short lived, so that when the external controls are removed compliance departs with it.

When compliance grows out of developing internal values such as respect, responsibility, love, family relationships, and personal growth, it is self-evident and self-sustaining. This durable, internal change is what we strive to create at Solstice through our remarkable people and programming.

Our Girls, Our Heroes, Their Journey

At Solstice, we use the archetypal Hero’s Journey to describe the therapeutic process and establish goals and criteria students and families must achieve in order to move from one phase of the journey to another.  Every student and parent approaches this journey from a different place, takes a uniquely personal journey, and passes through the stages at their own pace.

This Journey is about people, not programs.  From the passionate people we employ to the families who entrust us with their children to the incredible teens who rededicate themselves to this new journey…the challenges are there, but the results are worth the effort.[1]
